ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amy Friend is a modern textile artist living and working in West Newbury, Massachusetts, known for her foundation paper piecing and bold, contemporary quilt designs.

Amy studied Art at Bates College, focusing on Art History, and completed her MA coursework in American Art History at the University of Delaware. She worked as a museum curator before transitioning into full-time artistry work.

Drawn to the graphic nature of modern quilting, she began designing her own patterns, eventually creating and publishing hundreds of them over the last 15 years. Her patterns are known for being both innovative and unique. She has become a national modern quilt teacher and lecturer.

Friend’s works are in numerous private collections. Her quilts have been exhibited in the Iowa Quilt Museum, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, and the Texas Quilt Museum. To visit one of her quilts locally you can visit the GAR Memorial Library in West Newbury hanging on its walls.

Amy has authored three quilting books and designed two fabric collections. Her quilts have been exhibited nationally, including award-winning pieces shown at QuiltCon, the international show of the Modern Quilt Guild.
