About the Exhibition

Lobster Shine explores the anatomy and essence of a lobster within a surreal environment of saturated color, fog, and coral, evoking an otherworldly seascape.  Bright, richly hued video and photography, a lobster is rendered larger than life—each movement amplified, each gesture charged with quiet tension, as its gaze seems to meet and hold your own. It becomes elevated beyond its familiar role as a gastronomic delicacy, taking on an individual character worthy of a name—Shine. Lobster Shine invites viewers to reconsider their relationship to this ancient creature, encountering it as something intimate, enigmatic, and quietly captivating.

 About the Artist

 Erike Honneus is a Massachusetts-based video artist and photographer.

She earned an MFA from Yale University in 2003, and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2000. Her work has been shown at museums & galleries across North America including Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art, The New Museum (NYC),CalArts (Santa Clarita, CA)The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, CT) Artspace (Hartford, CT) Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT)
